Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W198) History
In terms of style, aesthetic, elegance, quality, and performance the
Mercedes-Benz 300SL, tipo W198, is arguably the greatest race-based production
car of the 20th century. The "Gullwing" earned its nickname from the unusual doors Mercedes-Benz used
on both the racing and production versions of this car. Based on the racing
models the 300SL has a tubular-steel frame that weighs just 120lbs. The frame
was modified for the Roadster to accommodate the conventional doors. Driving
this car is a nostalgic experience, until of course you let her go and experience the raw, beautiful power
Mercedes-Benz engineered for the race track.
Our restorations have achieved the highest acclaim and earned the highest prices on the market, both at auction and in private sales.
